  Floristic composition and seasonality of Scirpus californicus (Cyperaceae) rushes and Typha domingensis (Thypaceae) marshes in the Submeridional Lowlands (Argentina). The Submeridional Lowlands are a depressed area of about 20.000 km2 in the center of the North of province of Santa Fe Argentina. The landscape is very monotonous and vegetation is characterized by the scarcity of trees. The main plant communities are Spartina argentinensis Par. and Elyonurus muticus (Spreng.) O. Kuntze. tall grasslands and savannas, but also ther are several hygrophylous ones, out which the Scirpus californicus (C. A. May.) Steud rushes are the most widespread. The area of the rush stands varies from a few m2 to several km2. Another hygrophylous communities which thrives on similar environments as the heterogeneity and seasonality of these communities using numerical methods. When samples are ordered, the cattail community is separated from the rushes where only mayor types are differentiated. Classification of samples also separates the cattail comunity from the rushes which can be grouped in five clusters of variants which are characterized mainly by the lower layer dominant species. Seasonality is not very marked, determined more by the relative importance of species than by floristic changes.
