This paper deals with the alimentary ecology of two Pimelodidae very common in the Paraguay, Paraná, La Plata and Uruguay rivers; Pimelodus clarias (Bloch), and Pimelodus albicans (Valenciennes), by the examination of the gastrointestinal content of about 390 specimens of the farmer, and 230 of the second. The material was obtained from four principal bodies of water (lotic and lentic) in diverse periods and at different hours of the day.
These researches show that these fish are omnivorous in their food-habits prevailing an ichthvophagous tendency in lotic waters, while in lentic ones it is the bottom fauna which prevails, recording a considerable amount of mud, though without teing a real fiophagy.
A few limnological data about the different bodies of water in which the specimens studied were obtained are provided as well as graphics of the animal and vegetable material contained in the analized fish
