Behaviour and growth of Prochilodus lineatus (Pisces, Curimatidae) under controlled conditions.

  El trabajo tuvo por objeto analizar el comportamiento y crecimiento de juveniles de Prochilodus lineatus en un estanque de cultivo con abono orgánico y sin alimentación suplementaria, durante 291 días de ensayos. Los peces fueron sembrados a una densidad inicial de 3,2 peces/m2. Al inicio del experimento los peces presentaban una longitud estándar media de 65,6 mm, alcanzando al término del mismo 117 mm y 35,7 g de peso medio. La producción total fue de 1.070 kg/ha/año. Los incrementos meidosen peso y longitud, calculados para todo el período experimental fueron de 0,09 g/día y 0,14 mm/día, respectivamente. La alta carga inicial del estanque podría haber sido la causa de los bajos incrementos diarios obtenidos.



The purpose of this work was the analysis of the behaviour and growth of Prochilodus lineatus in a concrete pond, with organic fertilization and without supplemental feed during 391 days of trials. Fish were stocked at the density of 3.2 fish/m2. The showed at the beginning of the experiment 65.6 mm in standard mean length, reaching at the end 117 mm and 35.7 g in mean weight. The total production was 1,070 kg/ha/year. The average increment values of weight and length were 0.09 g/day and 0.14 mm/day, respectively. The high initial density may be the reason of low day increments.
