Lstt = 12,91 [-e-0,00571(t-1,585)],
Nt = 2544,75e-0,00285t y
P = 0,00448 Lst3,512
The results from three annual experiences of intensive breeding of the pejerrey, Odontesthes bonariensis, as part of a program of the Fisheries Development Direction, are presented. Fingerlings of 19 and 25 days old were cultivated in artificial ponds of 100 square meters, at initial densities of 25 and 25.4 individuals per square meter. A discontinuous flow of water was set up. Fish were fed twice a day with artificial food (2% of the estimated total biomass). In each experience, populations were sampled regularly, in order to evaluate growth, survival and biomass. With the entire data set growth, survival, and length weight relationship curves were fitted by the method of minumum squares.
The resulting equations were:
Lstt = 12,91 [-e-0,00571(t-1,585)],
Nt = 2544,75e-0,00285t y
P = 0,00448 Lst3,512 ,
where Lst is the standard body length, N is the number of surviving individuals, P is the body weight and t is time. Comparing these results to those obtained by other authors, it has been shown that these experiences produced the largest final biomass for similar periods of cultivation. The results obtained in this work represent a contribution to the management of this species under intensive conditions.
